Announcing CatCon LA—a Celebration of Cats, Culture, Art, & Style Coming June 2015

I’m thrilled to be on the roster of speakers at the inaugural CatCon LA. Like Comic Con but for cat people, the June 2015 event is sure to have tails twitching and set the tone for high-end cat conferences for years to come.

Speakers include Simon Tofield, creator of Simon’s Cat; Will Braden, creator of Henri Le Chat Noir; Mike Bridavsky, owner of Lil Bub; Ben Huh, founder of Cheezburger, Scott Stulen, founder of the International Cat Video Festival; Keith Bowers, founder of Catster; and a bunch of other very talented and creative cat people. Thumb-SimonSIMON TOFIELD: Simon Tofield started animating at a very young age. Inspired by cartoons on TV, he used to create basic flip-books in an attempt to emulate the techniques he saw being used on screen. In 2008 he created the cartoon “Simon’s Cat” and in the years following, subsequent others, to the tune of half a billion views.

mike-and-bub-150MIKE BRIDAVSKY: Mike Bridavsky is a recording engineer, producer, and studio owner. He is also Lil BUB’s best friend, and helps her write books, host talk shows, star in TV shows, help homeless animals, save the planet, and go to the bathroom.

Thumb-AngieANGIE BAILEY: Angie Bailey is an award-winning writer, blogger, humorist, and professional member of the Cat Writers’ Association with a collective social media following of over half a million on Facebook alone. She’s the author of whiskerslist: the kitty classifieds and Catladyland.

Thumb-KateKATE BENJAMIN: Kate Benjamin is the founder of the popular cat style blogHauspanther. She specializes in helping people live stylishly with cats, providing product information and interior design tips to help ‘Catify’ their homes. She is co-author of “Catification” with Jackson Galaxy.

Thumb-KeithKEITH BOWERS: Keith Bowers is senior editor at and He is the author of the Catster column called Cat Dandy, from the perspective of a fashion-conscious man who loves cats, with articles such as “My Cat Has a Foot Fetish,” “I Gave My Cat a Tarot Reading,” among others.

Thumb-JoanJOANN BIONDI: Photographer Joann Biondi is the creator of Lorenzo the Cat, a pop culture figure based on her photos of a real cat wearing real clothes in real settings. Lorenzo the Cat’s Facebook page has over 400,000 fans.

Will-Braden-150WILL BRADEN: Will Braden is the creator of Henri, Le Chat Noir, whose videos have been seen over 15 million times online. He is also the producer and curator of the Internet Cat Video Festival, and he bathes using only his tongue.

Cats Of InstagramELI & KADY/CATS OF INSTAGRAM: Cats of Instagram (COI) was created by Eli Omidi. Eli combined his love for animals with his foundational knowledge ofmarketing to create COI. Kady is the designer and editor of Cats of Instagram, as well as the mother of celebrity cat, Pudge. Current growth rate per month on COI is 80K, and the average likes per image is currently 75,000.

Thumb-BenBEN HUH: Ben Huh is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Cheezburger. The former journalist turned successful entrepreneur has been credited with pioneering Internet culture as entertainment, crowdsourcing, and bringing Internet memes to the mainstream.

Thumb-MarciullianoFRANCESCO MARCIULIANO: Francesco Marciuliano the author of the New York Times Bestseller “I Could Pee on This and Other Poems by Cats,” which was dedicated to his two cats Boris and Natasha. Marciuliano also wrote the new “I Knead My Mommy and Other Poems by Kittens.” He lives in New York City.

Thumb-RobROB REGER: Reger introduced the world to Emily the Strange, now the international icon for empowering young alternative girls (and people of all ages). Reger has been designing Emily and her cats for over two decades and has generated millions of fans of the character.

Thumb-ScottSCOTT STULEN: Scott Stulen is the creator and producer of the Internet Cat Video Festival (#catvidfest).The festival, launched at the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, initially expected 500 attendees and now attracts more than 10,000. He has presented on catvidfest and the rise of cat culture at SXSW, TEDx Indy and the upcoming Purina Better With Pets event. While he loves cats, Stulen is in fact, allergic.
